[ARCHIVED] Notice of Municipal Election to Fill Mayor and Two Commissioner Seats

City of Avondale Estates, GA

When: Tuesday, November 5, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Where: City Hall, 21 North Avondale Plaza

Notice is hereby given that a Municipal Election will be held to fill two Board of Mayor and Commissioners seats, as well as the position of Mayor. Mayor Jonathan Elmore, Mayor Pro Tem Brian Fisher and Commissioner Adela Yelton’s terms expire at the end of this year. Persons wishing to qualify for this election may file a notice of candidacy with City Clerk Gina Hill at City Hall, from 8:30 a.m. till 12 p.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Monday, August 19, to Friday, August 23. The qualifying fee is $216 for Mayor and $144 for Commissioner. 

Per the City Charter, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of the City for a continuous period of 12 months prior to the start of the qualifying period
  • Be a resident of the City during their period of service
  • Be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of the City
  • Not have been convicted of a felony at the time of qualification or during the period of service

Early voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from October 14 to November 1 at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur. The last day to register to vote or change your address is October 7. You may check your voter registration status, update your information, or register to vote at the Georgia Secretary of State's website.

A qualifying packet of information and required forms is available at City Hall during normal business hours. An online version is available here for your reference
