The Avondale Estates Board of Mayor and Commissioners (BOMC) voted to approve an ordinance expanding the hours when a licensed establishment can serve alcoholic beverages on Sundays. Starting Sunday, November 25, 2018, alcohol can be served starting at 11 a.m. Voters in Avondale Estates approved Georgia's Sunday brunch bill at the polls on Tuesday, November 6.
Previously, all sale of alcohol on Sundays was illegal until 2011. That year, after the legislature approved it, voters chose to allow alcoholic beverages to be served only after 12:30 p.m. The expansion of hours to 11 a.m. will now mean drinks can be served during peak brunch hours on Sundays. The change is only applicable to establishments that make at least 50 percent of their money from food.
