[ARCHIVED] Make Your Voice Heard - Shape Avondale Estates Zoning Code Rewrite

CPL_ShapeAvondaleEstates_Final

On November 20, 2019, more than 35 engaged citizens spent about 2 hours at City Hall helping to give input for a clear, well-organized Zoning Ordinance that is an essential tool to ensure that development conforms to the vision of the community. As the guiding document, the Shape Avondale Estates Zoning Ordinance Rewrite sets the direction for staff and City officials to develop and maintain a high-quality built environment. This rewrite will focus on codifying the vision, goals and objectives of other City plans; incorporating zoning best practices; and addressing development-related concerns unique to the City. In addition, the document will explore new and innovative strategies to address current code deficiencies and create connections between the Zoning Ordinance and the City’s long-range planning documents. Expanding on prior efforts by the City, the team will review recommendations from the Zoning Ordinance Diagnostic conducted in 2017 as the foundation for the rewrite.

View a presentation given at the event here.

Don't forget to take the survey by 5 p.m. December 2, 2019!

In an effort to implement the Avondale Estates Downtown Master Plan, the City is undertaking a rewrite of the zoning codes for which the master plan provides the foundation. Your voice and vision will guide the decision-making process of the code rewrite.

This survey is part of a larger community process that has already included two public meetings, an open house, and interviews with Avondale Estates leaders. For more information on the process and upcoming meetings, visit www.AvondaleEstates.org/ShapeAvondaleEstates.

All of the feedback gathered will be used to guide the rewrite of downtown portion of the code. The questions posed in the survey are intended to affirm those guiding principles that will be translated into the zoning code and refine the downtown vision into implementable regulations. Results will be available online in December.
