The BOMC seeks to assemble a Welcoming & Inclusion Committee to organize and support community efforts which (1) foster a welcoming environment to visitors and (2) promote understanding and collaboration between long-time residents and new community members in Avondale Estates.

We are seeking five (5) community stakeholders who can bring a variety of strengths and perspectives to this initial group. The committee is expected to meet at least monthly and support the objectives outlined in the City’s Welcoming Resolution passed in December 2019 which includes membership in the Welcoming America organization and participation in the One Region Atlanta Initiative to share good ideas, develop new tools, and receive recognition for efforts to create a more welcoming community.

Planning & Zoning Board Opening

The Planning and Zoning Board (PZB) consists of five members who are residents of the City of Avondale Estates. The members are appointed by the Board of Mayor and Commissioners and each serve four-year terms.

The PZB reviews and makes recommendations to applicants who are requesting a change in their land use, and to the Board of Mayor and Commissioners, who make the final decision to approve or deny an applicant’s request during a public hearing on the proposal.
