The City of Avondale Estates is beginning the process of updating and improving the current Historic District Design Guidelines.

The historic homes and landscaping anchored by the lake make Avondale Estates one of the most beautiful and well-designed neighborhoods in Atlanta. This community highly values and strives to preserve its unique historic charm and character. At the same time, we recognize the need to maintain, update, and adapt our historic homes and buildings for modern day lifestyles and conveniences. The Avondale Estates Historic Design Guidelines seek to establish clear rules that both protect our heritage and enable adaptation. Doing so not only preserves the community’s identity and visual appearance, but it also attracts others and encourages investment in historic areas.

The City of Avondale Estates is reimagining its Historic District Guidelines. Lord Aeck Sargent’s historic preservation and urban design practice areas were hired to complete the project.
