The following temporary operating changes have been implemented for sanitation and yard waste collection.
- The City is suspending back door sanitation collection. All residents and businesses are asked to move garbage containers to the curb on scheduled sanitation collection days. In instances where someone is physically unable to perform these tasks, he or she may apply for a special assistance waiver.
- Yard wastes in bags and containers will be picked up, but crews will not pick up loose piles of leaves and sticks. Public Works has gone back to staggered work crews and will be working at a lower capacity.
- Christmas trees will not be picked up from the curb during this time, but residents may take their trees to the "Bring One for the Chipper" site, the old compost area by Avondale Lake near Wiltshire Drive and Berkeley Road. Signs marking the drop-off location will be in place later this week. Remember to bring your tree unbound and free of decorations. Artificial versions or other household items are NOT accepted. Public works plans to resume collecting trees after Jan. 14.
- Recycling will continue to be picked up as scheduled by the City’s contractor.
We regret any inconvenience these temporary changes in services cause our residents. City Hall will be closed to the public, and staff will work remotely Dec. 30 through Jan. 14. City leadership remains committed to the community's well-being and safety and will reevaluate the situation at the end of this period. Thank you for your continued patience and support of the City of Avondale Estates and its staff.
